In the last decade many improvementshave taken place in the aquaculture segment especially in the farming of fishes and shrimps. The shift from extensive to intensive and semi-intensive farming has brought about an increase in disease outbreaks, especially by bacteria. To control these diseases, antibiotics have been used indiscriminately. To avoid the use of antibiotics and the development of resistant strains of bacteria, we studied the efficacy of benzalkonium chloride (BKC), a quaternary ammonium compound as an antibacterial and immunostimulant. The ever-increasing demand of fishes in the market lead has stirred tremendous interest among farmers to adopt new culture methods. The adoption of unplanned culture caused additional stress on fishes and other aquatic species. The indiscriminate use of antibiotic for controlling bacterial disease has led to the development of an antibiotic resistance that is transferable to nonresistant bacteria.

Thus, there is important to adopt some alternative which can help in figuring out this problem. Ammonium compounds like BKC are used as antibacterial for controlling bacterial diseases in aquaculture. BKC is a nonspecific antibacterial chemical used for the treatment of disease and bacterial gill disease.

For this, we use “Ponson” an effective water sanitizer which contains of benzalkonium chloride (BKC)which is safe, rapid acting bactericide, algaecide, fungicide and water disinfectant which removes all types of bacteria and harmful substances from the water and controls diseases. It is recommended to use as it is very effective in controlling diseases like antenna rot, gill rot, Bacterial gill diseases, red gill etc. When a fish or other aquatic species get affected due this, the nutritional level in the body becomes low due to low intake of feed. Thus we can use feed additives along with the feed which consist of all kind of trace minerals and vitamins that helps in maintain the health back to normal.
